The Santos Galbée represents one of the most important evolutions of Cartier's original sports-watch design, softening the sharp geometry of the earlier Santos Carrée into a more curved and wrist-conforming case. Ref. 1564 is the larger 29mm version, retaining the signature exposed screws, integrated steel bracelet and unmistakable square Roman-numeral dial that define the Santos. This example is particularly attractive for its naturally aged ivory dial, which has developed a warm patina that gives the watch considerably more character than a clean white example. Its proportions and integrated construction also make it a direct predecessor to the modern Santos de Cartier, with much of the same design language still recognizable today.
