The SBGX063 belongs to the early modern era of Grand Seiko, a period where the brand reasserted its identity through precision and finishing rather than complications. At a time when luxury quartz was still dismissed by much of the Swiss industry, Grand Seiko doubled down with the 9F programme, engineering quartz movements to mechanical standards, which by the way, has a 10sec/year accuracy 🤯
The clean sunburst dial, razor-edged applied indices, and perfectly weighted handset reflect Grand Seiko’s pursuit of visual calm and absolute legibility. Housed in a compact 37mm case, this reference represents the restrained, pre-hype Grand Seiko design language before Zaratsu finishing became widely marketed.
